Ridge & Hip Tiles
Ridge tiles run along the top of the roof and hip tiles cover the sloping external corners. Over time the mortar bedding cracks and crumbles, and tiles can work loose or fall. A roofer can re-bed and fix them, or fit a dry ridge or dry hip system that holds the tiles mechanically instead of relying on mortar.

What is a dry-fix ridge system?
A dry-fix system holds ridge and hip tiles in place with clips, brackets and a roll-out ventilated strip rather than sand-and-cement mortar. Since amendments made in 2015, BS 5534 (the code of practice for slating and tiling) has required ridge and hip tiles to be mechanically fixed — mortar can still be used, but not as the only fixing — and from 2018 its scope covers normal re-roofing work and repairs. A dry-fix system is one common way to meet it. Cost guides put dry ridge at about £50–£70 per metre and dry hip at about £70–£100 per metre.
